Computer Speed - 4 Tweaks To Increase Your Computer Speed

There are just a couple other things that decrease your computer speed that MANY people just don’t realize or forget about.

1. Take a look at the bottom right corner of your computer. You will see the time there. If you click on the little arrow it will slide out showing you all the programs you have running at the moment. If you are not really using any of these programs, turn them off! They are running for no reason and REALLY affecting your computer speed!

2. I have seen so many computers with a gazillion icons on the desktop. WOW, this guy is busy! ! ! Well, your computer monitor does something that is called “Refresh”. It refreshes the monitor screen many, many times per second. If you have a gazillion icon on your desktop, it has a harder time refreshing and contributes to slowing your computer down. Why don’t you just make up files for icons that are in the same category? Have one for songs, one for letters, one for pictures, one for audio programs, etc… then put all the files from your desktop to the folders? It will clean up your desktop and make it A LOT easier to find things to boot!

3. Now, what DO you have on your desktop? Do you have songs, files, or programs on it? For the same reason as above, if there is a lot of stored information on the desktop, the refresh rate drops like a rock. You may not really notice it but if you put all these things from this book together at the same time, you are looking at a computer that might be running at only ½ its potential! Don’t load programs, songs or anything else on your desktop! That is what your hard drive is for! Try to make sure that the only thing on your desktop is SHORTCUTS to the files/programs/etc stored on your hard drive. This will increase your computer speed considerably!

    4. Do you have programs on your hard drive that you never use? If so, why not free up some space on your hard drive by uninstalling them? This COULD speed up your computer besides giving you a lot more room on your hard drive. You see, if you have say a 40gb hard drive and you have about 34gb worth of data, programs, etc on it, you are running the risk of the computer crashing because there is not enough room for virtual memory. Virtual memory is not the same as RAM. It is actual hard disk space used AS RAM. So uninstalling programs no longer used or deleting songs, movies, data etc that you can do without will increase your computer speed as well.

Tips 1 and 2 are quite amusing but will have NO impact on performance. Updating the display is a hardware function of the display card that is independent of the processor. The number of icons, windows, etc will not influence this in the slightest. Moving windows on the desktop will be influenced by the number of icons but the performance impact will be very small.

Do organize the desktop but don’t expect any performance improvement.
