Computer Defrag - How To Defragment Your PC

Defragmenting your hard drive

Next is something that a lot of people just simply FORGET to do! Sometimes I even forget to do this if I get busy on my computer and get carried away. lol

When you are using your computer, files are constantly being moved around to make room for information coming into the computer from outside sources, such as CD-ROM, scanners, web cams, internet and any other input device you can think of.

Because of this, your files get fragmented. Meaning that they get broken into smaller bits and then put wherever there is room for the pieces.

Don’t worry, because each piece has a tag that points to the other pieces so they all know where each other is. The problem is that when you go to run that particular program, it takes longer to do the execution of it, thereby slowing down the computer!

Now all Windows Operating Systems have the Disk Defragmenter, but as far as I am concerned, it does a very poor job of putting all those fragmented files and programs back together! I have found another GREAT computer defrag program that does a hell of a job with computer defragmentation.

It is called JKDefrag. And yes! You can find it at www.jkdefrag.com . JKDefrag DOES use the Windows defragmentation API but it organizes things a little different so that the files that are used the most, are put to the front of the line so to speak.

A full description can be found on the website and I HIGHLY recommend that you get this program even if you don’t get anything else!

When I first started this application, this is what my hard drive looked like when I started the defragmenting…

All the black spots are empty space. As you can see, there is a lot of empty space about 1/3 up from the bottom. This program will condense everything so that there is almost NO black in the green areas.
This program does take a bit longer than the built in Windows Disk Defragmenter, but it does a much more thorough job! It reorganizes all the files, whether they are applications or data, so that the ones that you frequent most often are accessed first.

Because of the length of time it takes for this application to do a complete computer defrag, I recommend you do this when you go to bed or start the program when you know you will not be using the computer for about an hour.
