Internet Security - There IS Something You Can Do!

Internet Security has become a HUGE issue now-a-days. With just about every single home having at least one computer and multiple users, you want to make sure that your computer is not leaking out vital and confidential information about you and/or your family! Are you SURE your computer is safe? Well, lets take a look at some of the things that might be insecure within your computer that you didn’t know about!

Tech Support - Do I Really Need Tech Support?

So as you have seen from previous posts, there is much you can do yourself to optimize your PC. So this deminishes the need for you to seek out tech support.

Lets Recap

1. We found out that we don’t really need the System Restore and that it is potentially dangerous to use it. That if we do use it and we previously had viruses, we could reactivate them if we didn’t really get rid of them correctly.

Computer Speed - 4 Tweaks To Increase Your Computer Speed

There are just a couple other things that decrease your computer speed that MANY people just don’t realize or forget about.

1. Take a look at the bottom right corner of your computer. You will see the time there. If you click on the little arrow it will slide out showing you all the programs you have running at the moment. If you are not really using any of these programs, turn them off! They are running for no reason and REALLY affecting your computer speed!

Computer Defrag - How To Defragment Your PC

Defragmenting your hard drive

Next is something that a lot of people just simply FORGET to do! Sometimes I even forget to do this if I get busy on my computer and get carried away. lol

When you are using your computer, files are constantly being moved around to make room for information coming into the computer from outside sources, such as CD-ROM, scanners, web cams, internet and any other input device you can think of.

Because of this, your files get fragmented. Meaning that they get broken into smaller bits and then put wherever there is room for the pieces.

Computer Freezing

Computer freezing? Don’t know why? There could be many possible reasons for this. The most common reason could be your windows registry. From the time you turn on your computer, the windows registry starts keeping track of important information.

The windows registry stores information such as the hardware that is installed in your computer, the memory configuration, what programs and system files are required when starting up your computer, etc… It doesn’t matter how much data is accessed, the Operating System of your computer will look in the registry to find out where the file is located and which version it is. That makes the registry a very integral part of computer.

Computer Performance - Cleaning Up Your Computer With CCleaner

Cleaning Up The Rest

Yes there is more!

In order to optimize my computer and clear space on my hard drive, I have used a FREE program called CCleaner. With CCleaner you are able to do most of the optimizations already explained as well as much more. You can download this freeware from www.ccleaner.com.

It is a system optimization and privacy tool, which removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it contains NO Spyware or Adware!

Computer Cache - Vital Information About Your PC Security

Cache

Wikipedia defines “cache” as the following:

“In computer science, a cache (pronounced /kæ/, like “cash”) is a collection of data duplicating original values stored elsewhere or computed earlier, where the original data is expensive to fetch (owing to longer access time) or to compute, compared to the cost of reading the cache.”

Now for the layman. Cache is simply a place in your computer where data is stored, of places that you frequently go to so that the next time you want to go there, all the variables are easily accessible. You don’t have to “find” them again.

Deleting Cookies Using Internet Explorer

Deleting Cookies off your computer is not only helpful in speeding up your computer and freeing space on your computer but it is also essential for your personal peace of mind and information security.

The following is classified ROUTINE MAINTENANCE and this should be done every 2 weeks for moderate users, and at least every week for heavy computer users. Of course these time frames are my PERSONAL recommendations and are definitely not cast in stone!

You can do them MORE OFTEN or LESS OFTEN if you wish. Doesn’t hurt. But NOT doing it will just fill up some of your hard drive with garbage.

Windows XP - System Restore.

Do you have Windows XP as your operating system (OS)? The majority of all PC’s around the world are happily using Windows XP.

For the most part, XP is an excellent OS, but there are some things that you could tweak to customize it so that your PC runs faster and is more secure. In this post, we will be focusing on…

The System Restore.
