Getting Free Internet Security for Your Computer

June 9th, 2008 · No Comments

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Surfing the Internet nowadays can be very dangerous. With all the viruses, spywares, adwares, identity thieves and hackers circulating for surfers to victimize, opening and downloading an attachment sent by your friend can be very scary.

This is why Internet security is a necessity in all computers to prevent yourself from getting victimized by people who wants to steal from you or from viruses programmed to destroy your important files.

Without protection, it would be like leaving the keys to your front door visible and letting anyone in and install spy cameras around your house without you even knowing about it. The same applies to your computer. Since all your files today are stored in your computer, such as financial and personal information, you wouldn’t want to let anyone take a peek in your computer.

Just what is Intelligent Explorer?

May 5th, 2008 · 2 Comments

For your safety, you really need to know.

I recently hit, by mistake, what I thought was an Explorer
upgrade option. It turned out to be a pop-up appearing
legitimate but really was not. It uploaded a product called
Intelligent Explorer on my machine. What a nightmare!
I did some research on the web and found messages like this one from
a BullGuard Antivirus Forum,

“PLEASE HELP!!! I HAVE A SPYWARE, TROJAN AND HIJACKER ON MY
COMPUTER. I HAVE RUN BULLGUARD, CWSHREDDER AND AD-AWARE.
ALL HAVE PICKED UP THE VIRUSES AND SAID THAT THEY HAVE BEEN
MOVED/REMOVED BUT WHEN I LOG ONTO THE INTERNET THAT DAMN
INTELLIGENT EXPLORER TOOLBAR IS SHOWING”
Another message from spywareinfo Forum goes something like this:
“Hey I’m having issues with something called Internet explorer
toolbar - Intelligent explorer. I can’t find a way to remove
it from my comp and I really don’t want to reinstall windows.
I’ve used spybot, ad-ware, and cw shredder but nothing seems to
work.”

Spyware and the Anti-Spyware Beware!

April 22nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

Well, I have learned my lesson. Watch out what sites you go on! Some sites are dangerous even just to visit them!

Recently, 2 days ago, I was innocently surfing for information. I went to google and started looking up some material for this blog. Well, I ran across one that looked innocent enough and interesting from what the google teaser displayed. I clicked on it.

The new window popped up and then another pop up displayed telling me that I had a Trojan and needed to download an Anti-spyware program to get rid of it. My first thought was that it was just another pop up but to my horror, when I tried to close it, another browser window opened and it was another ad about an Anti-Spyware program.

Save Yourself $100s In Technicians’ Fees

I have just finished reading “Simple Fixes For Your Computer” and used ALL the tips in it. IT IS REMARKABLE!!!

Consider this an insurance policy on your computer, before you get a problem!

You don’t wait until your house is on fire to get contents insurance, or until your car is stolen to get car insurance, so why wait until you have a problem with your PC?

A computer is like a car, it needs maintenance to keep problems from occurring in the first place.

For instance, you wouldn’t wait until you’d run out of gas, oil or water before filling up again - you avoid the issue by topping up in plenty of time.

Refurbished Laptop Computer Batteries-Don’t Risk It

April 11th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Copyright 2006 Online Crazy Deals

Some laptop computer batteries dealers offer a refurbished laptop battery claiming they are restored to original specs. “Caveat Emptor”, buyer beware. Most are cheap and won’t hold the charge for very long. You might get lucky and get a good one, but the life of the battery is in jeopardy.

Why take the risk? New laptop batteries are not that much more in price and they are going to last a much longer time. If you buy a refurbished laptop battery it may only hold a good charge for a couple of months and once it’s dead, it’s dead!

XP System Restore: Turn off or reduce?

March 30th, 2008 · No Comments

I believe that the System Restore has a place and time in everyone’s computer level. If you are new to XP or computers for that matter, you might find this a useful utility, as it automatically creates a restore point (some date in the recent past) which you would be able to return to if you should have some troubles with software, applications or the Operating System due to viruses or something else. It does not however touch your data files or eliminate any kind of harmful programs! This must be FULLY understood to be of any use to anyone.

Backup Medium? Which one?

March 29th, 2008 · No Comments

If you are like most people, you have not backed up your data for a very long time, if ever!

You have downloaded or saved pictures from your camera, songs from CD’s or Torrents, Maybe some movies? Written letters to loved ones or composed some written information?

Well, for the sake of keeping this information, it is recommended that you backing up your hard drive/files/folders onto an external source. Such as a portable hard drive, CD/RW or CD/R.

Personally I have made a few CD/RW discs my backup discs and each time I do my backing up, I just do on the same disc. The way this one works is that it will remove all the old data, creating a blank disc, then copy your data from the hard drive to the disc.
